Right-wing extremists are pushing discriminatory legislation that doesn’t reflect the values of their communities. We know they are vulnerable, and we know we can take them on — and win. We’ve done it before.
In 2022, Fight For Our Rights challenged Iowa State Senate President Jake Chapman. His abhorrent views on LGBTQ+ rights and position of power made him our top target. Chapman called for the persecution of teachers and pushed dangerous “groomer” narratives in the state legislature.
Fight for Our Rights ran the largest independent political program in this race.
We used contrast digital and direct mail advertising to show that Chapman does not share the values of his constituents, and we highlighted key negative messages on Chapman and key positive messages on his challenger, Sarah Trone Garriott, via direct mail. Ousting Chapman resulted in the only seat flipped in Iowa in 2022.
Fight For Our Rights spent $200,000 on paid communications, including targeted direct mail and digital.
